Before buying any insert, it's worth confirming your cube dimensions. The Better Homes & Gardens Cube Organizer measures 13" wide × 13" tall × 15" deep per cube opening. This is slightly different from the IKEA Kallax (13-3/16") and the Threshold/Brightroom shelf (13-7/16"), so fit matters — a generic insert sized for one brand may not sit correctly in another.

X Divider Cube Insert

The X Divider Cube Insert splits a BHG cube into four horizontal quadrants using two interlocking MDF boards. No tools, no hardware — just slide the two pieces together and slide the insert into your cube.

It's the best insert for anything that needs to lay horizontally and stay separated:

• Yarn skeins and balls
• Wine and beverage bottles
• Spray cans and aerosols
• Rolls of fabric, wrapping paper, or kraft paper
• Tall containers or bottles

Each quadrant gives items their own lane, so pulling one out doesn't send everything else tumbling. A single X Divider cube can hold 8–16 standard yarn skeins, depending on weight — all visible, all accessible.

Adjustable Shelf Organizer Cube Insert

The Adjustable Shelf Organizer Cube Insert adds one or more horizontal shelves inside a BHG cube, turning it into a compact organizer. Two side panels with 9 sets of pin holes sit inside the cube walls, and you place shelves at whatever height works for your supplies. Each shelf comes with 4 shelf pins, and you can add up to 9 shelves per cube.

It's the right insert for flat items that need to lay horizontal:

Which Finish Should You Choose?

Both inserts are available in two finishes:

• Unfinished MDF: A natural brownish color, approximately 0.21–0.25" thick. Strong and sturdy. A good choice if you plan to paint it to match your shelf, or if it will be mostly hidden by what you're storing.
• White Melamine: White MDF with a melamine coating — easy to clean, waterproof, and scratch-resistant. Front-facing edges are banded with white iron-on melamine edge banding for a clean, finished look. If your BHG shelf is white, this finish blends right in.

How to Get the Most Out of Your BHG Shelf

A few principles that make a big difference:

• Assign one category per cube. Yarn in one cube, paper in another, tools in a third. Mixed cubes are harder to maintain.
• Use inserts for your most-used supplies first. Start with the cube that causes the most frustration and work outward.
• Keep heavier items on lower cubes. Fabric yardage, paper reams, and bulk supplies are easier to load and unload from the bottom rows.
